We were delighted to be commissioned by legendary Edinburgh silversmiths and jewellers Hamilton & Inches to create a new service desk for their iconic George St store.

The piece combined two heights of desk able to be used independently or pushed together to create a bar and hidden lower desktop area. Further enhancing the modular, versatile nature of the design, we also made the drawer sections as independent units on small, neat castors - allowing them to also be moved and used in a variety of ways, depending upon the store needs and future proofing the design.

As is fitting, we made the piece in old growth Scottish oak and detailed with the full grain leather, in store’s famous purple!

The locking mechanism for the drawers was inspired by a detail from a Charlies Rennie Mackintosh design; using a single, slim, lockable door to secure the entire series of drawers at once - making access easier and faster for the staff - rather than a series of fiddly individual locks.

To really finish off the piece we employed the incredible carving skills of my dad - to re-create the store’s logo device in three dimensions - meticulously incised into the oak front of the desk
